Mr. Thomasson became part of the FFLGuard program in 2012 and brings years of firearms specific experience to his position as FFLGuard’s Public Relations Specialist. He is a highly decorated former federal agent with more than 25 years of national and international experience.
During Mr. Thomasson’s career with the ATF and the federal government, he has served the American public in many ways. He began his professional tenure with the ATF as a Special Agent in Colorado and served in many leadership and supervisory roles across the country. Specifically, Mr. Thomasson served as the Chief of Public Affairs and the Chief of the Firearms Operations Division, with the latter post directing the office that accounts for 80% of the ATF’s mission. Additionally, he has served as an operator with the Department of State’s Mobile Security Division and as a Sniper with ATF’s Special Response Team. He has not only planned, participated and supervised numerous high risk operations in the field, but has also spearheaded the development and execution of successful media management strategies as well. These strategies helped to aid in local, regional and national emergency incidents, accidents, and political missteps that could have potentially compromised the reputation and public image of those Mr. Thomasson assisted.
Throughout Mr. Thomasson’s illustrious career he has received many highly publicized awards. They include the ATF Medal of Valor, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Annual Group Achievement Award, the ATF Distinguished Service Medal, the United States Attorney General’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Community Partnerships for Public Safety. Mr. Thomasson is also a recipient of 15 Special Act Awards for going above and beyond in the performance of his duties and the significant investigations for which he put himself in harms way to successfully complete.
An alumnus of the Virginia Military Institute, he earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in History. After graduating, he began his career in the U. S. State Department where he spent five and a half years serving at various overseas posts. Scot is married and lives in Virginia with his wife Sonya and their two daughters.
